STIMMENFANG - Ladies in Jazz – Romance & Soul
From Sept. 27 to Oct. 07 2007 Gostenhofer Jazztage e.V. will present the second edition of the festival started very successfully in 2005. One of the exciting highlights: the International Jazz Award of Nürnberger Nachrichten. New partner: Tafelhalle. New patron: MdL Christine Stahl.
The focus of STIMMENFANG 2007 are stories sung from the heartland — whether told with wise distance as in the songwriter tradition of folk music or spread with gusto in front of us as in soul music. Once again women in jazz, songwriters and singers, in short: vocalists with all the qualities of a band leader are the focus of the festival.
The festival will present song-oriented European jazz under the motto “Romance & Soul“. England, the country focus of the festival, will be represented e.g. by the voalists Norma Winstone and Jacqui Dankworth. Portugal’s Maria João will be present as well as the French singer Elisabeth Kontomanou and the rising star from London, Juliet Kelly; both stand for the "black" perspective. The Finnish singer Kristiina Tuomi will amaze her audience again — this time with the band So.Weiss of the sax player Susanne Folk from Berlin. Three young singers from Nuremberg will also grace STIMMENFANG 2007: Yara Linss, Christina Jung (Jungblut) and Sabine Müller (with her Band Seide).
Norma Winstone will hold a master class, and there will be a symposium dealing with modern jazz singing. Both events will be directed by Jule Unterspann (Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg-Augsburg).

Jazz Festival STIMMENFANG as a joint project of Nürnberg’s Jazz Initiatives
STIMMENFANG shows continuity. In addition to continuing and strengthening the proven cooperation with local jazz musicians and organizers there are new partners this year. The festival team is happy to have found MdL Christine Stahl (Member of the Bavarian Parliament) as this year’s patron.
The organizers of the festival again emphasize the idea of “healthy growth based on existing structures“. The featival managers of Gostenhofer Jazztage e.V. cooperate again with the following organizations: Dreieinigskeitskirche, Jazzstudio Nürnberg, Nürnberger Jazzmusiker e.V., Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg and Kunst-Kultur-Karstadt. Peter Noventa of Gostenhofer Jazztage e.V. is happy about “the newcomers Tafelhalle and the International Jazz Award of the Nürnberger Nachrichten. Thus, all important local jazz initiatives are represented. “
The festival has grown beyond the city quarter of Gostenhof. In addition to old festival locations as the Dreieinigskeitskirche and the club Loft there is the newcomer Tafelhalle and the locations of the last festival: Jazzstudio, Karstadt Kulturcafe and the restaurant Waldschänke in the zoo. Other important locations are the official festival hotel Hotel Maximilian and the DATEV eG, this time with its branch office in Nürnberg-Höfen.
Stimmenfang 2007 wants to thank the following sponsors: Nürnberger Nachrichten, DATEV eG, Derag Hotel Maximilian, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Jazzthetik, Stadt Nürnberg, Bezirk Mittelfranken and Freistaat Bayern.
Symposium "Jazz Singing in Germany"
The symposium is a cooperation with the Musikhochschule Nürnberg. Jule Unterspann, Professor for Voice, will conduct it. The symposium offers a platform for the first meeting of professors for voice (male and female) in Germany who define a specific generation. This generation concentrates on European, contemporary, experimental jazz—and carries this progressive attitude into the Music Colleges and Universities.
This meeting may well hail the beginning of long-term networks of voice teachers, thus leading to a steady and open exchange of ideas.
The communication started will enable larger workshop projects and cooperations of various colleges and universities—leading to a wide open field of exchange of knowledge and experience for students as well as professors.
Topics of the Symposium
•Taking stock of the state of the jazz voice education in Germany’s colleges and universities
•What is the state-of-the-art of European jazz and where will it go?
•The curriculum of jazz voice as a major
